MaST Community Charter School

The MaST Community Charter School project has consisted of four phases during which BSI Construction, LLC has been involved:  the Karen M. DelGuercio Center for Education, Parking Garage Expansion, Resource Center Addition, and Cafeteria renovation that included a brand new Mezzanine.  Currently, BSI and MaST are in the pre-construction phase of a brand new school, MaST II.

Beginning in late 2005, the Karen M. DelGuercio Center for Education was constructed as an addition to the existing charter school building.  As Construction Manager, BSI Construction, LLC oversaw the 36,000 sq ft addition of classrooms, faculty offices, science laboratories, computer classrooms, a small gymnasium, and a lecture hall.  The $5,900,000 facility includes a tiered lecture hall layout with power/data ports at each seat location.  The fitness center incorporates technology with standard fitness equipment to provide unique fitness programs within the space.  The roof was designed with an automated telescope dome which can be accessed by students via the Internet.

The second phase of construction for MaST Community Charter School in which BSI Construction, LLC was involved was the Parking Garage Expansion project.  The three-level structure was completed in four months and includes two stair towers.  The tiered structure, constructed of pre-cast components on a cast-in-place foundation system, accommodates 50 cars and includes a dry fire sprinkler riser.

MaST Community Charter School’s Resource Center, designed by J2a Architects, is a three-story building that emphasizes the use of technology throughout the facility. The first floor of this 24,000 sq ft addition houses teaching, office, and meeting spaces.  The second floor library includes computer and tablet stations and a tiered group reading area that projects media onto a floor screen.  The third floor of the facility has a graphic design lab, media production studio, computer lab, and technology center that manages and maintains all of the technology throughout the campus.

The latest phase  of construction was the renovation of the school cafeteria and auditorium.  The project included the construction of a brand new mezzanine in the cafeteria, brand new finishes throughout the room, and renovations to a few surrounding rooms.

BSI is currently in the pre-construction phases of MaST II, a brand new sister school desgined by Ewing Cole, which is expected to break ground in 2017.
