The Pennsylvania Convention Center loading docks see thousands of trucks every year as events move in and out throughout the year, putting significant wear on the loading docks wearable slab and trench drains.

The main scope of this renovation project revolved around the replacement of the trench drains in the 2nd level loading docks. The demolition involved removing part of wearable slab, removal of waterproofing, and demolishing the trough drain formed in the structural slab.

The new drains were designed to be deeper, which required additional steel supports underneath the structural slab. Once the steel was set, the structural slab was formed and poured back, including a trough for the trench drain. Once the structural slab had cured, the waterproofing system was applied to the slab and the drain. The last step in the process was pouring back the wearable slab with the trench drain frame embedded over the trough. The rest of the project consisted of selective wearable slab replacement depending on condition, expansion joint replacement, steel cleaning and restoration, and fire proofing.
